Yes. Texas law requires teens under 18 to complete a state-approved driver education program before applying for a provisional license.
The full teen program consists of:
32 hours of online/classroom instruction
44 hours of behind-the-wheel training, which includes:
-7 hours in-car driving
-7 hours in-car observation
-30 hours additional practice (with a parent/guardian)
Yes. Students may make up missed sessions; however, Texas law allows a maximum of 5 absences.
Additional absences may require repeating portions of the course.

Texas law permits no more than 2 hours of classroom instruction per day.
Driving lessons begin after completing 6 hours of classroom instruction (Permit Phase).

No. The course must be completed in full to receive a state-approved completion certificate.
Yes. Adults ages 18–24 must complete the 6-hour course.
Adults 25 and older are not required to take the course, but it is strongly recommended for first-time drivers.

-Traffic laws
-Roadway signs
-Defensive driving strategies
-Alcohol and drug awareness
Passing the final exam allows adults to apply for their learner’s permit.
Yes. Upon successful completion, certificates are typically issued the same day.
Yes. A valid learner’s permit is required to take the road test.

-Practicing parallel parking
-Completing all required behind-the-wheel hours
-Taking a mock test with one of our instructors

-DE-964 certificate (for teens)

-Verification of required driving hours

Steps:

Certificate is valid for 90 days.
Yes. Certificates expire 90 days after completion.
If expired, you must retake the program.
Log back into the ITTD website to reprint your certificate.
Errors must be corrected directly by visiting the ITTD website or contacting DPS support.
